How to get to La Graciosa from Italy: flights and ferry

La Graciosa is the eighth of the Canary Islands, officially recognised only in 2018: small, wild, with sandy tracks instead of tarmac, a few hundred inhabitants and deserted beaches. It's paradise for anyone seeking silence. It has no airport: you get there only by sea, from Lanzarote. Here's how, step by step.

The basic rule: no airport, ferry only

La Graciosa has no airport. The only way to reach it is:

  1. A flight to Lanzarote (ACE) from Italy or with a stopover.
  2. A transfer to the port of Órzola (north of Lanzarote).
  3. A ferry from Órzola to Caleta de Sebo, the only village on La Graciosa.

The first step is getting to Lanzarote (ACE). From Italy, direct flights to Lanzarote are mostly seasonal (winter); off-season you go via a stopover in Madrid/Barcelona or an inter-island flight from Gran Canaria/Tenerife. (You'll find all the details in the dedicated guide on how to get to Lanzarote.)

Once you've landed in Lanzarote, you need to reach the port of Órzola, at the northern tip of the island:

  • From Lanzarote airport (ACE) to Órzola: about 45–55 minutes by car.

The ferry from Órzola

Ferries to Caleta de Sebo (La Graciosa) leave from Órzola:

  • Companies: Líneas Romero and Biosfera Express.
  • Duration: about 25–30 minutes.
  • Frequency: several crossings a day, more in high season.

No need to book the car: private tourist cars aren't allowed on La Graciosa. On the island you get around on foot, by bike or with the local 4x4 taxis.

Getting around La Graciosa

Forget the rental car: there are no paved roads on the island and tourist vehicles are banned. The options are:

  • Bike (rented in Caleta de Sebo): the most common way to reach beaches like Playa de las Conchas.
  • Local 4x4 taxis for the more distant areas.
  • On foot, for those with time.

When to go

  • Cheaper and great weather: May, June, September, October.
  • La Graciosa is exposed to the wind: factor that in for beach days.

In short

To get to La Graciosa from Italy: a flight to Lanzarote, a transfer to Órzola (north), then a ferry (25–30 min) to Caleta de Sebo.
