What to see in La Graciosa: wild beaches and nature
La Graciosa is the eighth of the Canary Islands, officially recognised only in 2018: small, wild, with no paved roads and a few hundred inhabitants. A place where time has stopped, made of deserted beaches, golden sand and silence. You get around by bike or 4x4 taxi (private cars are banned). Here's what to see.
Playa de las Conchas
The island's most spectacular beach, on the north side: a long stretch of golden sand facing a turquoise sea, with the islet of Montaña Clara opposite. Wild and almost always deserted. Note: the sea here is strong, with dangerous waves and currents — there's often a red flag. You come for the beauty and the wind, more than for swimming. You reach it by bike (about 30 minutes from Caleta de Sebo) or by 4x4 taxi.
Playa de la Francesa
On the south side, more sheltered: calm, crystal-clear water, perfect for swimming and snorkelling, with views of Lanzarote and the Mirador del Río. It's the best beach for relaxing in the water. Reached on foot (about 25 minutes from the village) or by 4x4 taxi.
Caleta de Sebo
The island's only village, where the ferry arrives: low white houses, sandy streets, a few fish restaurants and the little harbour. It's the centre of everything: here you rent the bike, eat, and set off to explore. The atmosphere of a fishing village out of time.
The hidden coves
Exploring the island by bike or on foot, you discover solitary coves: the Barranco de los Conejos, a small golden beach among black volcanic rocks, or Pedro Barba, a tiny cluster of houses by the sea. La Graciosa is all to be explored slowly, without rushing.
